Description
Avro Lancaster Mk I (ME649) of 460 Squadron RAAF in flight over Lincolnshire. The squadron code for this aircraft was AR-J and the number '2' at the right hand top of the code letter J probably denotes this is the second 460 Squadron aircraft to carry this code letter. This aircraft was operated by 460 Squadron from RAF Station Binbrook for most of 1944 until November when it was transferred to No 103 Squadron RAF. The aircraft was posted missing after a raid on Essen on 12/13 December 1944. Beneath the mid-upper turret is the radome housing for the revolving aerial of the H2S radar and the rear turret is turned completely to starboard.
