Description
The boom working vessel HMAS Koala was laid down at Cockatoo Island Dockyard on 21 June 1939. On completion Koala was commissioned on 7 February 1940. With her sister ships, HMAS Kangaroo and HMAS Karangi, she was in Darwin during the Japanese air attack on 19 February 1942 but sufferred no casualties or damage. In the late 1960s, Koala was declared for disposal and sold by tender.
