Description
Seamen hoist a Sopwith 1 1/2 strutter biplane aircraft (serial no. 5644) on board HMAS Australia for a flight from the platform over the gun turret. Several seamen can be seen standing on the platform. The first flight by an aircraft from HMAS Australia took place on 18 December 1917; a two seater aircraft made its first successful flight on 8 March 1918.
