A Sopwith 1 1/2 strutter biplane aircraft (serial no 5644) is hoisted onto the deck of HMAS Australia. The first flight by an aircraft from HMAS Australia took place on 18 December 1917; the first successful flight of a two-seater aircraft took place on 8 March 1918. (Different occasion from that shown in EN0542; note different covers over the engine. See EN0010, EN0011, EN0017, EN0343, EN0542 and EN0544.)
