Description
These aerial bombs at the entrance to Headquarters, 2/6th Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers, 7th Division, were recovered from Tripoli Harbour. Two men dived to attach hooks to the bombs which were hauled ashore and deactivated using a hammer and a stick of wood. They are of French origin and weigh about 400lbs each. The sentry in the photograph is NX25155 Sapper Terence Charles Williams who later died of illness in Burma on 18 September 1943.
