Studio portrait of 1661 Private (later Sergeant) Jens Edward Valdemar Karl Ingvarson DCM and Bar , 44th Battalion, standing. A dairyman of Bibra Lake, WA, originally of Denmark, he embarked for overseas service in June 1916. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for action in July 1918 when he assumed control of a platoon after his commanding officer became a casualty and their iobjective was attained. The Bar to to the DCM was awarded for rushing the Hindenburg Line armed with a rifle and bombs, in the face of machine gun fire, he captured eight machine guns and took two prisoners.
