Officers chatting with players during a spell in the football match between South Australian and Tasmanian members of the 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion. Identified are TX2483 Sergeant (Sgt) Joseph Royden (Roy) Lette, C Company (11th from left, wearing white shorts and a jersey with a white V); and SX500503 (SX6962) Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Seaforth Blackburn, VC, Commanding Officer 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion (14th from left, wearing his slouch hat and First World War German Luger pistol in holster). Sgt Lette had been a notable Australian Rules footballer with the City Club, Launceston,Tas. He died of wounds on 4 March 1942 in Java, aged 25
