On the left is NX18434 Warrant Officer Class 2 Francis Alfred Barrett who escaped from a German camp in Austria and made his way to Syria through Greece and Turkey. On the right is NX3921 Private Walter Arthur Sicklen who escaped from Salonika and returned to his unit by the same route. Warrant Officer Barrett was later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was killed in action in New Guinea on 24 October 1943.
