Bien Hoa, South Vietnam. 1965-09. US Corporal Frank Crazy Thunder, a Native American, Oglala Lakota (Sioux), serving in Vietnam with the 173rd United States Airborne Support Battalion attached to the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) has had a special version of the digger hat made for himself. Here in a hat switch are Sergeant Jim Bates (left) and Corporal Crazy Thunder (right). Sergeant Bates, a Balcombe Army Apprentices' School graduate with 17 years’ service experience, is a Clerk Technician.
