Description
Two Tamigudu boys carrying bananas from native gardens to the beach. A weekly barge was chartered from Lae to the Australian Army Service Corps, to transport fruit to the detail issue depot, who then despatched the fruit to the 2/7th General Hospital and provided any surplus to Units in the Lae area. A bartering arrangement was formed by the the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit with the Luluai (the village head), to exchange Army rations for fruit and vegetables.
