Description
Trooper John Hutton Bisdee VC, being greeted from the train on his arrival home, probably Tasmania, from the South African (Boer) War. He was invalided home after being wounded in action near Warm Bad, Transvaal on 1 September 1900. Bisdee was awarded his Victoria Cross for rescuing a comrade under fire. He was the first Australian born man to be Gazetted for winning the Victoria Cross while serving under British Command whilst serving in an Australian Regiment.
