Studio portrait of 13252 Private (Pte) James Whitson Ainslie Agnew, Army Medical Corps from West Richmond, Victoria. A 22 year old university student prior to enlisting on 30 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the Special Reinforcements from Melbourne on 7 March 1916 aboard HMAT Karoola (A63). After arriving in Egypt, he joined the 12th Field Ambulance and went with them to France in June 1916. Pte Agnew was killed in action on 29 September 1917 just north of Reninghelst and is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
