Studio portrait of 206 Private (Pte) Donald Alexander, 28th Battalion from Mornington Mills. Western Australia. A 24 year old mill hand prior to enlisting on 3 March 1915, he embarked for overseas service with B Company from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 9 June 1915. After disembarking in Egypt, he sailed to Gallipoli on 4 September 1915. Pte Alexander was wounded in action on 26 September 1915 and died from his wounds later that same day in No 16 Casualty Clearing Station at Gallipoli. He is buried in Embarkation Pier Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
