Studio portrait of 46 Private (Pte) Arthur Edward Baker, 19th Battalion from Catherine Hill Bay, NSW. A 21 year old colliery engineer prior to enlisting on 20 February 1915, he embarked for overseas with C Company from Sydney on 25 June 1915 aboard HMAT Ceramic. While serving with the battalion at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action defending Pope's Hill. Pte Baker died of his wounds on 10 November 1915 and is buried in the Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
