Portrait of 187 Private (Pte) Oliver Albert Mortimer Barker, 10th Battalion. A clerk from Morphetville, South Australia, prior to enlistment on 20 August 1914, Pte Barker embarked on HMAT Ascanius on 20 October 1914 for Gallipoli. He was appointed Lance Corporal (L Cpl) on 1 December 1915 when his unit was withdrawn to Alexandria, Egypt. In March 1916 Pte Barker embarked for Marseilles, France, and was killed in action at Pozieres on 25 July 1916, aged 21 years.
