Studio portrait of 17 Private (Pte) Edward Cyril Bird, 2nd Battalion. An engine driver, of Singleton, New South Wales, he enlisted on 21 August 1914 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Suffolk on 18 October 1914 for Egypt. Pte Bird was wounded in action at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and died at sea the following day, aged 24 years.
