Studio portrait of 22919 Gunner Alan Ecila Longmore Bisset, 7th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) from Murrumbeena, Victoria. A 25 year old engine driver prior to enlisting on 20 January 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 1st Reinforcements of the 8th FAB from Melbourne aboard HMAT Medic on 20 May 1916. On arrival in France, he transferred to the 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column and then to the 7th FAB. He was wounded in action on 20 September 1917 and after medical treatment, returned to his unit two weeks later. He was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 20 October 1917 and buried in the Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Belgium. His older brother, 4751 Private Eric Simson Bisset, 46th Battalion was killed in action in France on 14 November 1916. [See image H05671.]
