Studio portrait of 3796 Trooper (Tpr) Lancelot Charles Blackall, 4th Light Horse Regiment (4 LHR), shown here with the rank of Corporal which he held for a period prior to embarkation. An actor, using the stage name Lance Shiel, of Fitzroy, Victoria, he enlisted on 27 February 1917 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Kyarra on 7 September 1917 for Egypt where he spent some months in training and on garrison duties. Tpr Blackall was taken on strength of 4 LHR on 12 April 1918 and was killed in action in Palestine on 4 May 1918. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel. He was aged 37 years.
