Informal portrait of 1134 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) George Bland, 16th Battalion. A brassmoulder, of Prospect, South Australia, he enlisted on 21 October 1914 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic on 22 December 1914 for Egypt. L Cpl Bland was admitted to the 15th General Hospital, Alexandria on 14 May 1915 suffering from pneumonia and died the same day. He was aged 24 years.
