Studio portrait of 7199 Private (Pte) William John Bottomley, 5th Battalion, of Armadale Vic. A grocer prior to enlistment, Pte Bottomley embarked with the 24th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Ballarat on 19th February 1917. He was killed in action at Mont St. Quentin on 1st September 1918,aged 39, and was buried in the Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
