Studio portrait of 161 Private (Pte) John Montague Bowmaker, 17th Battalion, of Hurstville, NSW. A cabinet maker prior to enlistment, Pte Bowmaker embarked from Sydney on HMAT Themistocles on 12th May 1915. On 22nd September 1915 he died on board H.S. Aquitania from wounds received in action at Gallipoli and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
