Studio portrait of 2784 Private (Pte) Claude William Brown, 6th Battalion, of Footscray, Vic. An assistant storeman prior to enlistment, Pte Brown embarked with the 9th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Star of Victoria on 10th September 1915. He was killed in action on 9th August 1916 and was originally buried in the vicinity of Pozieres. In 1928 his body was exhumed and was re-interred in the A.I.F. Burial Ground, Flers, France.
