Studio portrait of 1640A Private (Pte) Eli Frederick Brown, 48th Battalion of Pekina, SA. A labourer prior to enlistment, Pte Brown embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements from Adelaide on HMAT Aeneas on 11th April 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal for 'gallantry and devotion to duty' at Albert on 5th April 1918. On 5th May 1918 Pte Brown was killed in action and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
