Studio portrait of 3494 Corporal (Cpl) John Beresford Bryson, 53rd Battalion. A dental mechanic from Huskisson, New South Wales, prior to enlistment as a Private in the 2nd Battalion on 1 August 1915 he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides on 2 November 1915 for Egypt. He was transferred to the 53rd Battalion on 16 February 1916 and was promoted to Corporal on 8 May 1916. His unit relocated to the Western Front, France by late June 1916. Cpl Bryson was killed in action at Bellicourt, France on 19 July 1916. He was aged 25 years.
