Studio portrait of 244 Trooper (Tpr) Thomas Buckingham, 10th Light Horse Regiment. A station hand of Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia, prior to enlistment on 23 October 1914 he departed from Fremantle on 8 February 1915 for Alexandria, Egypt. His unit embarked for the Dardanelles on 16 May 1915 however, he returned to Mudros on 2 July 1915 due to illness before rejoining his unit on 15 July 1915. Tpr Buckingham was wounded in action on 7 August 1915 and died at sea aboard the hospital ship HS Delta on 10 August 1915. He was aged 19 years.
