Studio portrait of 4758 Sergeant (Sgt) Arthur Archibald Buller, 57th Battalion. A labourer of West Warburton, Victoria, prior to enlistment as a Private (Pte) in the 5th Battalion on 14 October 1915 he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wiltshire on 7 March 1916 for Egypt. He was transferred to the 57th Battalion on 20 April 1916 and relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 31 July 1916 and promoted to Corporal on 5 February 1917 then promoted to Sergeant on 28 April 1917. Sgt Buller was wounded in action near Bullecourt, France, on 10 May 1917 and died of these wounds the following day. He was aged 22 years. His younger brother, 5047 Pte John Alexander Buller, was killed in action near Pozieres, France, on 8 August 1916 (see H06027) while his older brother, 3037 Pte Charles Edward Buller died of wounds received in action near Ypres on 19 September 1917 (see H06026)
