Studio portrait of 1632 Private (Pte) Charles Wesley Burkett, 51st Battalion. A clerk of Perth, Western Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Fremantle aboard HMAT Aeneas on 17 April 1916 for Suez and then to Plymouth, England. He joined his battalion on the Western Front, France, in August 1916. Pte Burkett was wounded in action at Mouquet Farm on 6 September 1916 and died of these wounds ten days later in No 20 General Hospital, Camiers, France. He was aged 21 years. His older brother, 6007 Pte Richard Burkett was killed in action at Bullecourt, France, on 6 May 1917. (See H06504)
