Description

Studio portrait of 475 Sergeant (Sgt) Albert Ernest Burn, 5th Battalion. A tailor from Ararat, Victoria, prior to enlistment as a Private on 18 August 1914, he was promoted to Corporal on 5 September and then to Lance Sergeant on embarkation from Melbourne on 21 October 1914 aboard HMAT Orvieto for Egypt. He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 January 1915. Sgt Burn was killed in action during the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. He was aged 28 years.
