Studio portrait of 5060 Private (Pte) Percival James Burns, 60th Battalion. A labourer from East Brunswick, Victoria, prior to enlistment in the 5th Battalion on 21 January 1916 he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Suffolk on 1 April 1916 for Suez. He embarked from Alexandria on 21 June 1916 for the Western Front, France, where he transferred to the 60th Battalion. Pte Burns was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium, on 26 September 1917. He was aged 32 years.
