KIARIVU, NEW GUINEA, 1945-08-11. THE AIRSTRIP BEGINNING TO TAKE SHAPE AS HUNDREDS OF NATIVES EMPLOYED BY AUSTRALIAN NEW GUINEA ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT CUT THE STRIP OF EVERY BLADE OF KUNAI GRASS LEAVING THE BARE GROUND TO BE DRIED BY THE SUN. WEATHER PERMITTING IT WILL BE USED BY TIGER MOTH AIRCRAFT WITHIN A FEW DAYS. THE AREA IS NOW OCCUPIED BY 2/7 INFANTRY BATTALION TROOPS.
