Studio portrait of 1004 Private (Pte) Fred Chadwick, 31st Battalion from West Brunswick, Victoria. A 24 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 6 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with D Company from Melbourne on 9 November 1915 aboard HMAT Wandilla. After joining the battalion in France, he was killed in action at Fromelles on 21 July 1916. Pte Chadwick is buried in the Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
