Studio portrait of 1527 Private (Pte) Morrice Chapman, 17th Battalion from Hurstville, NSW. A 23 year old overseer prior to enlisting on 7 April 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 1st Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 12 May 1915. After disembarking in Egypt, he proceeded to Gallipoli to join the 17th Battalion and three days after landing was killed in action on 27 August 1915. Pte Chapman is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have now known grave.
