Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) George Francis Corcoran, 31st Battalion from Ashfield, NSW. A 25 year old customs clerk prior to enlisting on 28 August 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 4th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 14 March 1916 aboard HMAT Anchises. While serving with the battalion in France, he was wounded in action on 25 October 1916 and died of his wounds five days later. Lt Corcoran is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'Abbe, France.
