Studio portrait of W Cox, identified as 852 Private (Pte) Walter Charles Ebden Cox, a labourer from Sale, Victoria, prior to enlistment. Pte Cox embarked from Melbourne with D Company, 24th Battalion, aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 10 May 1915. On 7 August 1916 he was wounded during the counter-attack on Pozieres Heights, France. He was later evacuated to a hospital in Northamptonshire, England, where he died on 22 September 1916.
