Description

Portrait of 903 Private Nicholas Thomas Cosgrove, 3rd Battalion from Quirindi, NSW. A 34 year old engine driver prior to enlisting on 19 August 1914, he embarked for overseas service with E Company from Sydney, NSW aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October 1914. After disembarking in Egypt, he landed at Gallipoli and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 1 May, to Corporal on 23 June and to Sergeant on 1 August. Sometime between 6 and 12 August 1915, he went missing, believed killed in action and after the war his body was exhumed and reburied in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
