Studio portrait of 3259 Private (Pte) William Peter Coyle, 5th Battalion from South Melbourne, Victoria. A 32 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 7 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 11 October 1915 aboard HMAT Nestor. He joined the battalion in the field in France where he was killed in action at Pozieres on 25 July 1916. Pte Coyle is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
