Description
Studio portrait of 898 Private (Pte) Thomas William Culph, 9th Light Horse Regiment from Wangaratta, Victoria. A 27 year old stockman prior to enlisting on 23 December 1914, he embarked for overseas with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Kabinga on 8 May 1915. While serving at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action and evacuated to a hospital ship where he died of his wounds on 14 August 1915. Pte Culph was buried at sea and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
