Studio portrait of 96 Sergeant Trumpeter (Sgt) Clive Malcolm Dalton, 4th Australian Light Horse, of Brunswick, Vic. A railway clerk prior to enlistment, Sgt Dalton embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Wiltshire on 19th October 1914. On 12th August 1915 he died on board H S Sicilia of wounds received in action at Gallipoli and was buried in the Alexandria (Chatby) Military & War Memorial Cemetery. Sgt Dalton came from a distinguished military family. His great-great grandfather fought in the Napoleonic Wars, his grandfather rode in the famous charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimea as well as serving during the Indian Mutiny and his father was a serving Army officer of 32 years experience. Two brothers, 2791 Private (Pte) Charles Clarence Dalton and 21241 Pte Kenneth Dalton, also served in the AIF.
