Studio portrait of 827 Private (Pte) John Samuel Thomas Dale, 21st Battalion, of Corowa, NSW. A farmer prior to enlistment, Pte Dale embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ulysses on 10th May 1915. After transferring to the 6th Machine Gun Company, on 24th November 1916 he died of wounds received in action and was buried in the St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
