Studio portrait of 5442 Driver Dustin Lee Denford, 1st Australian Army Service Corps from East Wellington, South Australia. A 31 year old farm teamster prior to enlisting on 19 October 1914, he embarked for overseas with the 2nd and 3rd Reinforcement, Divisional Train from Melbourne on 19 February 1915 aboard HMAT Runic. He was taken ill while serving at Gallipoli and evacuated to the Hospital Ship Gascon where he died of pneumonia on 30 May 1915 and was buried at sea, 5 miles off Gaba Tepe, Turkey. His name is inscribed on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
