Pre war studio portrait of 1655 Private (Pte) Gilbert Beresford Dyer, 14th Battalion. An assistant mechanic from East Brunswick, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Dyer had previously served as Colour Sergeant with the 51st Infantry Brigade. He embarked with the 3rd Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Runic on 19 February 1915. After initially being reported missing at Gallipoli , it was later confirmed that he was killed in action on 28th April 1915. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine memorial.
