Description
Studio Portrait of Captain (Capt) Francis Edward Fairweather MC and Bar, 38th Battalion. A public accountant from Albert Park, Vic prior to enlistment, Capt Fairweather embarked with the rank of Lieutenant (Lt) with A Company from Melbourne on HMAT Runic on 20 June 1916. After being promoted to Captain, he was awarded the Military Cross for "most gallant conduct in the leadership of his company". Later he was awarded a Bar to his Military Cross for "conspicuous ability and devotion to duty". On 29 September 1918 he was killed in action and was buried in the Templeux-Le-Guerard British Cemetery France.
