Outdoor portrait of, what is probably, five members of the 29th Battalion in a sandbagged trench. Amongst this group and possibly the soldier at centre back is 536 Corporal (Cpl) Frederick Bernard Fisher, 29th Battalion. Cpl Fisher enlisted in Melbourne aged 29 years. An electrician, 5ft 3inches, he embarked 10 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11). He was received a gunshot wound to the thigh in August 1916. He was a temporary corporal between 1 August and 18 August when he was wounded and sent to hospital reverting to the rank of private. He had a further period of acting as a corporal from 6 February 1917 till he was killed in action on 2 March 1917 in France.
