Studio portrait of 439 Private (Pte) John Martin Fisher, 7th Battalion. A carpenter from Footscray, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Fisher embarked with D Company from Melbourne on HMAT Hororata on 19 October 1914. Following his promotion to Lance Corporal (L Cpl) he died, aged 24, on HS Gascon from wounds received in action at Gallipoli. He was buried at sea and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial. L Cpl Fisher was one of eight brothers who enlisted in the AIF.
