Studio portrait of 2783 Signaller Arthur Hamilton, 12th Battalion from Bowden, South Australia. A 19 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 8 June 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 9th Reinforcements from Adelaide, South Australia aboard HMAT Star of England (A15) on 21 September 1915. After serving with the 12th Battalion at Gallipoli, he transferred to the 52nd Battalion in Egypt and went with them to France in June 1916. Signaller Hamilton was killed in action in Belgium on 22 October 1916 and is buried in Chester Farm Cemetery, Zillebeke, Belgium.
