Pre war studio portrait of 138 Private (Pte) Joseph Thomas Flynn, 1st Battalion. A tram driver from Sydney, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Flynn embarked with A Company from Sydney on HMAT Afric on 18 October 1914. After being initially declared as wounded and missing in action, a later Court of Enquiry determined that he had been killed in action at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, aged 26. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
