Studio portrait of 1946 Private (Pte) Nelson Alfred Foard, 13th Battalion. A farmer from Strathfield, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Foard embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Kyarra on 13 April 1915. After initially being declared as missing in action, a later Court of Enquiry determined that he had been killed in action at Gallipoli on 22 August 1915, aged 26. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
