Studio portrait of 2665 Private (Pte) Burton William Hamlyn, 58th Battalion from Brighton, Victoria. A 32 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 24 June 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 6th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 2 October 1916 aboard HMAT Nestor (A71). While serving with the 58th Battalion in France, he was killed in action at the second battle of Bullecourt on 12 May 1917. Pte Hamlyn is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
