Studio portrait of 531 Private (Pte) Norman Wakefield Folks, 14th Battalion. A blacksmith from Bonnie Doon, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Folks embarked with D Company from Melbourne on HMAT Ulysses on 22 December 1914. After initially being declared as missing in action, a later Court of Enquiry determined that he had been killed in action at Gallipoli on 8 August 1915 aged 26. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial. His younger brother, 3816 Pte Allan Edward Folks was subsequently killed in action in France.
