Description
Portrait of 2081 Private (Pte) John “Jack” Hancock, 35th Battalion from Enmore, Sydney, NSW. A 28 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 1 April 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 3rd Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Anchises (A68) on 24 August 1916. After disembarking in England, he proceeded to France with the 35th Battalion on 21 November and was killed in action at Armentieres on 10 December 1916. Pte Hancock is buried in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France.
